Spotted: Fashion Bloggers, Why?

On Sunday I found this blog called "Fashion Bloggers, Why?" and it made me look at the world of fashion bloggers from a whole new angle. Before getting started though, I want to point out that I do not agree with everything sad on it, however, it makes you think about some behaviours we blogger came to accept as totally normal although any outstanding would ask "WHY?".

I am not sure, wheather the author Nati Hell (he or she? I think she) truely hates all fashion bloggers in general or simply those that put their outfits on the web day by day in order to fish for compliments, even though they don't really have a sense for fashion in the end. She already posted quite humorously about some well known "fashion bloggers" like The Blonde Salad, Fashion Toast, Chick Muse, and so on... and she truely hates Sea of Shoes. It is questionable wheather the way she displays her oppinion at times isn't too vulgare and by now the blog is already a bit outdated as well, however she has a point!
WHY would someone open a fashion blog? Because he or she works in fashion and wants to share the experience and daily life? Because the people think they got style? Because they think they got money and thus money & labels = style & fashionable? Because they are simply fishing for compliments? Because they are calling for attention and want to be sponsored? Or do they want to make a fashion statement although there is none replying to the posts?
ADD on reasons: "I need somewhere to let out my obsession" (Fransesca) - haha love it

This made me think. Also about my intentions and this blog of course, because I have already posted some outfits, too. I have to admit it is fun posting your outfits and getting replies. It makes you feel good (well but I never claimed to have any sense in fashion). Moreover I have to admit that before I started this blog I carefully scanned many blogs I found out that those where people talk about themselves are the ones that get most attention. Its all about entertainment in the end. Or does it come back to the good old turth: You pay attention to me so I pay attention to you (basis of all good friendships)? Anyway, I find it kind of frustrating, because I get the impressions the only reasons people answer your post is so you go on their page and post a comment. Isn't that what most people are after? Nobody bothers to write constructive comments (including me at times).
And is this what I really want?

I want to write about many aspects in life! Fashion is one, sure, but not the center of it! There is more: Traveling, Art, Photography, Reading and what is going on in the City/Country/World, Stylish people one has met, etc.

So I ask again, why would someone open up a fashion blog?

  1. i'm just about to go to her site and check it out.. but i just started mine as a hobby to share things i bought then as i entered the blogger community more, i started posting outfits but they're my style and i'm not out to fish for compliments! i think she sounds pretty damn insecure about herself to be bagging out on fashion bloggers. yes, some people have no clue about fashion but who cares about them! haha x

  4. very interesting post!! i've thought many of the same things and in all honesty find myself thinking, more often than not, why are there so many STUPID blogs out there? mostly fashion and why are they getting so much attention?..and the one's that seem the most about 'me,me,me' are the most popular ones!..lolol..pretty crazy...it is the reality show-loving world we now have...oh well! lol.. just keep pressing on and do what comes naturally...

  5. her blog is really funny actually. although I love fashiontoast and other blogs she talks about some of the stuff she says is pretty halarious and dead on.. I have a fashion blog and all I can say is.. I need somewhere to let out my obsession. I know some HORRIBLE blogs though and some of these big time bloggers are just sell outs.. they post only what is gifted and what is "in" ... so dissapointing. Anywho Love this post! great read

  6. Why wouldn't someone want to create a fashion blog? I've been passionate about fashion for years and I tried desperately to work in the industry and failed (even though I had four years of experience) my blog is my way to stay connected to the fashion world and do something I love take photographs and talk about fashion!

I'm having a $100 dollar Shopbop giftcard GIVEAWAY on my blog! Come check it out :) It's open to international bloggers as well.

  7. i agree with gabby. why NOT start a fashion blog if you love fashion and are obsessed with clothes and finding new ways to mix and match what you own? I have no experience in the fashion industry, but it is a way to express myself on the side... and that is what fashion is, a form of self expression. Also, it opens up many many doors to opportunity and like minded people. I have met so many interesting and fantastic people through only 3 months of blogging, and have been able to attend many lovely events that have given me opportunity to network and meet new people who can help me in the future!

  8. @Steffys Pros and Cons & @Collections for sharing your opinion. As i noted on Collections Blog there is nothing wrong with having a fashion blog. I simply got the impression by some blogs that to some people the focus is not on fashion (which sometimes means to try weard things as well) but rather what how to get most peoples attention and sponsors and money. For them its always about the next feature in a big magazine and about a brand sponsoring this and that. And that is what i don't like...
Networking is fine and important and last but not least fun, isn't it? But some overdo it, don't you think?

  9. I was just about to start a fashion blog when i stumbled upon nati's blog. i agree that she's kinda bitter but she's really funny and i actually read and liked her blog. she does have a point with fashion bloggers being pretentious. I think if she cuts up the foul comments and be a fashion blogger critic, i think she will be good like the fashion critics in yahoo omg.
